Speaker A:

I've been trying different styles in that I haven't done like the puppet Muppet style yet.

Speaker A:

But maybe, maybe we'll do that this week.

Speaker A:

We'll see.

Speaker A:

Hey, that reminds me, it's time for our Athlete of the Week at Nation.

Speaker A:

We have another awesome athlete with us today, all the way from Lion Country.

Speaker A:

I hear what's Your name, sir?

Speaker B:

My name is Rims Carnero, sir.

Speaker A:

Ah, nice to meet you.

Speaker A:

And you are.

Speaker A:

What school did you train at?

Speaker B:

I trained in Integrity Martial Arts in Cutler Bay, Florida.

Speaker A:

Cutler Bay, Florida.

Speaker A:

Down there with Senior Master Isaacs and Grandmaster Isaacs.

Speaker A:

An awesome place down there.

Speaker A:

You guys got like, there's like 400 integrity schools down there now.

Speaker A:

I think Senior Master Isaacs is trying to take over the state, I hear.

Speaker A:

Hey, we love to hear a little bit about people's history.

Speaker A:

First, how old are you right now?

Speaker B:

I am 13 years old, sir.

Speaker A:

Thirteen, okay.

Speaker A:

And what rank are you?

Speaker B:

I'm a second degree black belt.

Speaker A:

Second degree black belt.

Speaker A:

Fantastic.

Speaker A:

And so how did you get started in martial arts?

Speaker B:

I was 4 years old and I was really, like, fascinated with, like, the Ninja Turtles, and I always want to, like, become one of them, and my parents put me in Integrity, and now I'm here.

Speaker A:

It's been history since then.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

Okay, most important question then.

Speaker A:

Which Ninja Turtle is your favorite?

Speaker B:

Michelangelo.

Speaker A:

Michelangelo, very popular.

Speaker A:

Donatello's better, but okay, great.

Speaker A:

So, hey, question about competition.

Speaker A:

You're one of these athletes that the junior ambassadors have been picking up to highlight.

Speaker A:

It's great to see lots of different athletes highlighted at tournaments.

Speaker A:

What's your favorite event to compete in?

Speaker B:

My favorite event to compete in is sparring.

Speaker B:

Because I love the competitive nature of it.

Speaker B:

And, like, it doesn't matter how many times we hit each other or how hard outside of the mat, we're always friends.

Speaker A:

I love that.

Speaker A:

I tell my students all the time.

Speaker A:

We always, you know, what's the nicest thing before you go into a sparring match?

Speaker A:

You always shake hands.

Speaker A:

You hug, you say, which is just kind of a crazy thing to think about.

Speaker A:

Like, we.

Speaker A:

We go around kicking people in the head, but before and after we shake hands and hug, we're like, hey, yeah, no, that's fine.

Speaker A:

So sparring is your go to event.

Speaker A:

I love it.

Speaker A:

What, what about, like, if you had to pick an event that was maybe not in your top level events, what event would that be?

Speaker B:

Well, I don't really have, like, an event I don't like the most.

Speaker B:

I like all events because they always, like, bring something.

Speaker B:

I always learn something from each event, and I always try to be 1% better in each event.

Speaker B:

So I don't really have, like, a least favorite.

Speaker A:

Oh, man, that's a great answer.

Speaker A:

Very cool.

Speaker A:

So we are right now as we record this, getting ready for district championships and then world championships around the.

Speaker A:

Around the bend.

Speaker A:

What are you.

Speaker A:

What kind of goals do you have for the end of this season, the.

Speaker B:

Kind of, the type of goals I have for the end of the season, I definitely try to get another world title and try to get a district, some district titles to qualify for some events that I maybe didn't qualify for for Worlds.

Speaker A:

Gotcha.

Speaker A:

What, what event have you or events have you gotten world championships in before?

Speaker B:

World Creative Weapons Sparring, and we got it in team sparring last year, sir.

Speaker A:

Nice.

Speaker A:

Good job.

Speaker A:

You said creative weapons was one of them.

Speaker A:

What creative weapon do you, do you use?

Speaker B:

I use the nunchuck, sir.

Speaker A:

Nice.

Speaker A:

And then in traditional weapons, are you a chuck guy too?

Speaker B:

Yes, sir.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I gotta have those flying double chucks, right?

Speaker B:

Yes, sir.

Speaker A:

You got it.

Speaker A:

Hey, what about look into the future?

Speaker A:

You know, you're 13, maybe not next year, but just as you look at the future of your Taekwondo training as an athlete, as a competitor, maybe as a, as a student, what are you looking at as some longer term goals for yourself?

Speaker B:

Definitely Mastership.

Speaker B:

I do one day want to become a Master, sir.

Speaker A:

I love that.

Speaker A:

I am.

Speaker A:

You know what?

Speaker A:

I am so impressed with the number of students that I have got to interview through this series that have that goal of becoming a Master, and it's so cool.

Speaker A:

You guys can most certainly be a great generation of masters.

Speaker A:

You know, we get to see, you know, I, I'm personally excited to be able to be like, I interviewed that guy, you know, when he's now I'll probably be like with a cane or something awful there, but I'm not that old.

Speaker A:

But going for master, that's awesome.

Speaker A:

You guys got some great role models there and integrity for you.

Speaker A:

As you look at, you know, the people around you, as you look at your own competitive nature, what does it mean to be an athlete that goes beyond the belt?

Speaker B:

For me, what it means to be an athlete that goes beyond the belt is to inspire other competitors that maybe doesn't mean to have to be in the same ring as me, but to push them and for them to always do their best, no matter the outcome and, and to always be happy with how they did.

Speaker A:

Oh, I love that.

Speaker A:

I think it's so important.

Speaker A:

That's such an important message for all kinds of people.

Speaker A:

Especially like this time of year, we're going to have a lot of people that aren't going to get the title they wanted.

Speaker A:

You know, I mean, there's, there's 10 people or more in the, in the Tournament of Champions for that division.

Speaker A:

One person walks away with a title.

Speaker A:

You know, there's a lot of people who don't walk away.

Speaker A:

And what you said there about making sure that they, you know, think about how they did for themselves, how they improve themselves.

Speaker A:

Great inspiration for people as they get ready for worlds and nationals.

Speaker A:

Obviously we want you guys to win, you know, titles and stuff, but have you.

Speaker A:

Here's a, Here's a question.

Speaker A:

Have you gone competed in the TOC or district and not got the title that you wanted?

Speaker B:

Yes, sir.

Speaker A:

And how did you.

Speaker A:

How did you deal with that?

Speaker B:

I just made sure to work twice as hard for the next year and just be prepared for whatever happens the next time around.

Speaker A:

I love that.

Speaker A:

Good.

Speaker A:

It's all about the journey that you're.

Speaker A:

You're participating in.

Speaker A:

It's not always about the end result.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

Great advice, sir.

Speaker A:

What a great athlete.

Speaker A:

Any other last words for ATA nation out there before we let you go?

Speaker A:

I'm sure you've got lots to do and train.

Speaker A:

I think I hear Senior Master Isaacs back there telling you to, like, do more jumping jacks or run 100 more miles or something.

Speaker B:

Just for every competitor to train hard, do their best, and good luck for TOC and districts.

Speaker A:

Ah, great.

Speaker A:

Thank you so much for your time, sir.

Speaker A:

Thank you for being an inspiration for other athletes out there in ATA Nation.

Speaker A:

And good luck in all your competitions.

Speaker B:

Thank you, sir.

Speaker A:

Love it.

Speaker A:

Another amazing athlete of the week, guys.

Speaker A:

These athletes just keep coming and I'm so impressed to get to meet these guys, see what their goals are, get to talk to them about, you know, their favorite events and stuff.

Speaker A:

I.

Speaker A:

I think it's really cool.

Speaker A:

I just did another interview that'll go off later in July today before this episode, and it was great.

Speaker A:

Really exciting stuff.

Speaker A:

Now, don't forget to tune into our live.

Speaker A:

Okay?

Speaker A:

World Championships is around the corner right now.

Speaker A:

Some of you, some of our loyal listeners will be down in Little Rock at the athlete development camp.

Speaker A:

Guys, I know you are going to be going through T shirts like crazy, sweating it up, working hard.

Speaker A:

Senior Master Isaac's making you do those runs.

Speaker A:

You know, all the amazing coaches out there.

Speaker A:

It's going to be, I know, a great time.

Speaker A:

So next month we're going to do another live episode.

Speaker A:

And so we're going to be talking to Team usa, some captains from Team usa.

Speaker A:

We'll be talking to them.

Speaker A:

We're gonna be talking about the Whale Pass Alaska adventure that you can have with song on Taekwondo in Whale Pass, Alaska.

Speaker A:

We're going to be talking about that.

Speaker A:

That's going to be the live episode that we're going to do in July.

Speaker A:

So tune in Saturday 21st June for our first live event.

Speaker A:

And then we will be doing another live show in July with some other amazing guests.

Speaker A:

So do not miss them.

Speaker A:

I'm thrilled.

Speaker A:

We have just such a packed summer.

Speaker A:

All kinds of amazing stuff going on.

Speaker A:

You should see my schedule tomorrow.

Speaker A:

It's nuts.

Speaker A:

But you know what?

Speaker A:

As ATM martial artists, we're out there taking action.

Speaker A:

You can't just sit around.

Speaker A:

If you're going to be a champion beyond the belt, you can't just be sitting on the couch.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

You got to be taking action.

Speaker A:

Okay, so that's your action call for today.

Speaker A:

Get out there, take action, be a champion beyond the belt.
